Kelly Bennette was born in the Southeast Texas city of Port Arthur in 1962 and grew up in the neighboring town of Groves. He began his musical journey in fifth grade when he joined the band. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, he attended Lamar University in Beaumont and received a B.S. degree in music education. Mr. Bennette eventually became tubist for the Lamar Faculty Brass Quintet as well as the Beaumont Symphony Orchestra. He also directed Lamar University Jazz band B for three years. He went on to work as a band director in public schools for twenty eight years. He retired from teaching in 2017. Mr. Bennette currently plays in the East Texas Symphonic Band from Longview, TX., the Tyler Community Band from Tyler, TX., and the Lake Country Symphonic Band from Mineola, TX. He is a regular performer with the Windjammers Circus Band, The ACB Convention Band as well as the National Community Band. Mr. Bennette is published by over a dozen publishing companies in the U.S., the U.K., Belgium and The Netherlands. His works include nearly 80 marches, many overtures, programmatic works, works for younger bands as well as a series of tone poems based on the Arthurian Legends.
