Lucas Daniel O’Brien is a seventeen-year-old musician and composer from Vancouver, British Columbia. Lucas has been interested in music for his entire life. He began learning classical guitar when he was seven years old, and now plays a wide variety of instruments including violin, viola, clarinet, and saxophone. When Lucas was nine, he began writing short songs for guitar and voice. These evolved into pieces for a variety of ensembles. In 2017, Lucas started studying music composition with Edward Top at the Vancouver Academy of Music. Through this, Lucas was exposed to a wide variety of genres and styles. His compositions have been played by the Standing Wave ensemble, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and have been featured in the Sonic Boom Festival and the Vancouver Academy of Music Young Composers’ Competition.
